Any Good, Cheap US sources for Fiber Carpet Underlay? Not the foam stuff, but the fiber based cushion preferrably with rubberized bottom. Thanks, Doc Doc

How much do you need? Are you looking for minimum lengths or widths? If you arent too particular you might be able to contact a carpet shop or contractor for offcuts and remnants. |

I have a friend who installs carpets for a living. He may know or may know of some that his company is just getting rid of. I'll ask him if you like. |

I use carpet to cover my archery stands. I go to the local carpet warehouse and ask if I can go through their dumpster. They throw out the carpet that they take out of a place when thy are installing new stuff. You can get some very large lengths of carpet. |

I'm not sure if I'd want to use recycled carpet padding. It's likely to never lose any smells (such as urine) that may have permeated it, and I don't even want to think about bugs. (Bugs are why I like spiders
) I haven't called the local discount carpet place yet for what I need for *my* project, although I probably will tomorrow. They're always good about selling me carpet offcuts very inexpensively, so I know that I'll get the underlayment cheaper there than anywhere. Just call around. The old saying "let your fingers do the walking
" still works. And to be honest, I'm not sure how available that rubber-backed fiber material is any more. Everything I've seen carpeted in the last five years or so has used that single-layer multicolored foam stuff. Same thing for horsehair for auto upholstery; it's also been replaced pretty much with foam. Fortunately, we still have a local Mexican car seat shop that uses horsehair, so I'm assuming in our little backwater, there's a chance to find the right carpet backing too. Guess I'll find out! Just checked with our local carpet dealer. They have the fiber backing, in six-foot width, for $3.38 USD per square yard. Allen |

Cool I will have to check it out locally as well, you know for the extruded features on the terrainmat site I think the new forms of spray insulation would work. I think it is by DAP, and it is white with a flexible, latex constitution so it should survive being rolled up for storage. As soon as I can I will post picts of my endeavours. yet another project, Doc
