"As readers of this blog will recall, I have always loved the old 28mm line of German Colonial figures once produced by the Honourable Lead Boilersuit Company. Today I received an unexpected but most welcome message from Richard at HLBC who remembered my interest and an old email query about his figures. Much to my delight, he told me that he has just reimagined and released a new line of German Colonial figures in 28mm and they are magnificent – easily the most detailed and accurately uniformed figures available. Did anyone wargame this also? Yes, I wargame this period. I've co-written a scenario and rules book on the Herero War, with the scenarios and rules derived from the original German sources: official histories, first-person accounts, and original maps. I am now working on a book on the Nama Wars. And I've been running Herero and Nama games at HMGS conventions for 15 years. In fact, the first photo in your post is in my Herero War book. It's a German Gebirgsgeschütz (mountain gun) at the Battle of Onganjira, where thousands of rifle-armed Hereros in entrenchments fought against the German main field force, the Hauptabteilung. The Gebirgsgeschütz, because of its mobility relative to other field pieces, played a prominent role in the actual battle of Onganjira and thus is important in my Onganjira scenario. It's great to see more figures on this period being released. In my games I use Tiger Miniatures and Falcon figures.

Looking forward to the Nama scenario book coming out, especially if it's anything like as good as the Herero one. |
