What units do you have that consistently let you down.
(inspired by TMP link )

Either particular figures, or a unit in your Orbat that you don't trust.

n my Operation Husky game – me as umpire/scenario opposition – the 2 Inch Mortar in 2 section rarely* puts smoke anywhere you want it. Left, right, long, short – on the enemy, but never on target. The Lt and Sgt have come to the conclusion they will get the Mortar team to drop smoke, then attack from there, rather than the other way round.

(the only reason I can't say 'never' is because once the smoke landed on target. I believe by that point though it was too late and the company were ahead of them)

Using a Panzer IV in WaT, I ALWAYS lose, yet when fighting against them, they always get me!!!!

Cerdic03 May 2021 11:30 a.m. PST

The guy in charge of that mortar isn't called Mulligan by any chance…

In one set of skirmish rules the squad leader was required to pass a test to activate his unit. I had a fanatic hitler youth leader that just never seemed to be able to pass a activation test. His squad just stood around thru the whole battle.

I send those kind of units on suicide missions, redeem yourselves or die!

One unit in particular used to let me down. But then, I asked my doctor if Viagra was right for me…

I have a big unit of Napoloenic Austrian hussars that despite size and effort in painting those ridiculous pelisses still can't bring home the bacon

HMS Swiftsure. Pretty much every time I use her she either sinks, blows up, or strikes.

Long ago WRG 6th ed Ancients I had 2 units of Huns. Every figure was individually based and one unit would rout or perform poorly at best. Always. But I couldn't identify which figure was the cause. The other unit were Heroes

My 15mm Napoleonic Austrian cuirassiers. If there is a way to let me down, they do.

Old Glory Sponsoring Member of TMP03 May 2021 3:24 p.m. PST

For years my Saxon curassiers could not buy a good dice roll -- to the point I nicknamed them the " DISTAS --TROS.
Even when put in very favorable combat situations they would fail !!
Almost spooky how it was.

Every one of my own units I play on the table. I can do okay with troops from others, but not my own.

Female Russian sniper for Bolt Action – she has never killed anyone and always dies when I use her in a game!!!

Played in a WFB campaign years ago with my Empire force. Had a unit of halberdiers that failed every morale check they ever had to make over 8 or so games.

14th Brooklyn. Routs every time, no matter what.

The famed Green dragoons in my TYW Army. No matter what the situation, they always rout. I have had them as ambushers in a Rocroi scenario and they fire without effect and then rout, multiple times in the scenario.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART04 May 2021 3:47 p.m. PST

To all above-Best wishes and agreements.

Wolfhag04 May 2021 4:05 p.m. PST

javelin98,
Were you able to finally rally your unit and rise to the occasion? Maybe you need to shake the dice harder to activate your unit. Sooner or later you'll need to come to grips with that failed unit. Sometimes a unit that fails to activate in the heat of the moment can become cut-off.

Good luck.

A fellow wargamer had a 30mm British Napoleonic hussar regiment--good castings, nicely painted--which misbehaved so frequently he tried to sell it at a bargain price. Nothing doing. We all knew about the "rotten routing Tenth."

Jeffers06 May 2021 5:36 a.m. PST

23rd Foot in the AWI. I've had them in 6mm and 15mm and they have stank in both. I'm hoping for third time lucky in 25mm…

Just what exactly are you implying there wolfhag?

Bashytubits07 May 2021 6:26 p.m. PST

Maybe he should try soaking his units and dice in a solution of Viagra unless his real problem is that he needs to take them orally.

My units don't let me down but sometimes they have to "limp" along to get the job done. They are very jealous of "stiffer" competition. I'm still using the original one from 1953 so it's a real antique, I'm surprised it works at all.

von Schwartz ver 209 May 2021 4:57 p.m. PST

Hey, MINE is a '53 model, classic, all OEM. Just keep em clean and lubed.

Wolfhag10 May 2021 11:40 a.m. PST

von Schwartz ver 2,
Wow – what a coincidence. However, I doubt if they are from the same manufacturer.

Would you care to tell us the scale of your unit and the paint job? I'm guessing 15mm and glossy final coat. Does the top of yours have any special modifications?

von Schwartz ver 210 May 2021 12:26 p.m. PST

Getting a little personal aren't we? Large extended pipes, chopped and blown, balanced and blueprinted, twin 4 barrels, and a turbo.

I was going to get the high-performance Super Sport option but I was afraid I'd blow a head gasket.

Let's see who get's DH'd first.

I think I've got a good grip on the problem, folks! I just need to shake things up a bit to whip it into shape.

von Schwartz ver 212 May 2021 4:12 p.m. PST

You know what they say javelin, shake it more than twice and your playing with it
