"Venezuela's authoritarian president, Nicolas Maduro, has managed to stay in power for eight years despite remaining profoundly unpopular, overseeing a spectacular economic collapse and facing years of opposition efforts to dislodge him. There's little doubt Maduro has outplayed his opponents, and yet, his hold on the country is more tenuous than it seems.

The democratic opposition has indeed failed to remove him. But under Maduro, Venezuela is increasingly becoming a land of militias, warlords and criminal gangs. As they gradually divide the country into fiefdoms, the state's footprint is steadily shrinking. The government's sway beyond the capital city is significantly less than one might expect in a country whose regime has monopolized political power. …"

I thought they already took over years ago.

We have our own gang problems in the US. One which calls itself antifa is currently vandalizing downtown Portland.

You got that right … oh wait … some say they don't exist, they are a myth … 🤔

They have their preferred gangs and we have ours.

Sounds like Mexico, much of Central America, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Washington D.C., NYC, and far too many other locales.

I suspect it will only get worse in the near term, since no one is doing anything to make it better, and many want to defund or abolish those that serve and protect us, and keep us safe.

Sounds like the world needs Street Judges.

Where's Dredd?

Thresher0130 Apr 2021 1:19 p.m. PST

We either need Dredd, or that police robot.

What I found out, some on the net, etc., etc. Believe Antifa means Anti-Fascist, with it does. And yes we are all Anti-Fascist, well most of us probably.

However, Antifa came here from a "movement/group" in Germany, fairly recently. And what many here in the US don't seem to get … Antifa are basically anarchists. They believe any gov't, including the US is Fascist. I.e. they are anti-America, Anti-Capitalism, Anti-Law enforcement, Anti-Military, etc., etc.

But many in the USA drank the koolaid, and don't get when they say they support Antifa. They are not supporting America, Capitalism, etc., etc.

Any member of Antifa arrested for committing a crime, burning, destroying property private or public, etc. Should be in jail/prison for more that 24-48hrs. They are domestic terrorists. Freedom of speech and assembly does not including destroying, burning, looting, threatening LEOs, etc.

Those are crimes and those that commit them should not be on the streets … Gitmo has a lot of open cells these days … just say'n …

Antifa seems to be a misnomer to me, because they adopt the same tactics which they claim to publicly decry. They ARE the true fascists of our day, at least in the USA.

The anarchist label fits nicely too.

Well said, Legion 4. They are indeed, domestic terrorists, much like those from BLM, and both organizations sadly seem to have a lot of political support.

I find it quite interesting that the FBI and other agencies/government personnel are going on "jihad" against the Jan. 6th protestors from D.C., but haven't investigated Antifa, or BLM who have and are doing the same, or worse, both in D.C. and across our country for the last 15+ months. The real kickoff for this seems to be the limo that was torched on Inauguration Day in D.C., in Jan. 2017.

Yes I agree with that …

I have little confidence in the FBI anymore. They have become a little Left, Liberal, "woke", etc., it seems to me. I hope I am wrong.

Antifa and BLM appear to be a bigger threat than the Proud Boys, Neo-Nazis, KKK, etc. Not that they too are not very misguided, racists, etc., etc. They very much are and more. But I don't see any of those horrible Very Far Right Groups doing all the damage that Antifa & BLM did last summer.

Again I don't support any of these groups/mobs, they are all extremists at both end of the spectrum. They all IMO need to be a concern, etc.

Again Freedom of Speech and Assembly does not include looting, burning, destroying, killing, etc., etc. And many forget … freedom isn't free …

Glup!.
