"Throwback Project - Shock Trooper Test Piece" Topic

Way back when, I bought a box of these for use as bad guys in my sci-fi games. I finally decided to pull them out of storage and paint them up, but wasn't sure about what paint scheme to use. This is a test piece aiming for a dark and subdued look. I certainly achieved "dark" – maybe I'll try a camo color for the next test piece.

It turns out that the arms from the GW plastic Cadians fit the Shock Troopers very well – and I agree with Black Jack, the detail on the arms in the kit is OK but not great, the Cadian arms/weapons are in my humble view much better

I did them up with German Grey (Tamiya) for their greatcoats and a black ink wash and Field Grey for the helmets, with a glosscoat wash

I got a box of those.
Need to post the results on my blog sometime.
It's got a cool "suprise" head in the kit.

I use mine as imperial guard troopers.

Good start on yours. With a little practice they'll come together well. Try Cutting all the pieces out and mix and match til you find something that looks good and is easy for you to assemble.

Greylegion – It's surprising how many boxes are still floating around these days.

Frederick – Those turned out well! I like the stripes on the shoulder armor – that's an idea I might borrow for next time.

UltraOrk – I'm saving the surprise head for a leader figure. Mixing and matching is good advice – I'll give it a try.

I have a full 80+ figure army of these.
I painted them black with grey dry rushing and colored markings in the shoulders. One thing I did was turn the heavy weapons from being under slung to traditional rifles.
Supplemented with the GW mk1 Rhino based vehicles for APCs and AFVs.
It's my Neu Swabian Expeditionary Force.

I bought the huge bundle deal, pre order, of these when they were first offered. Eight boxes I think…
I like the plastic they are molded in, pretty good to work with. I just wish the alternate heads were much better, with totally different styles.
I like most of the weapons and the Vader mask helmeted heads but the alternate Helmeted heads don't fit right at all. The rest of the heads are tosh in my eyes.
I am building a Steel Legion style unit and a bunch of small group conversions for Mechanicus forces.
All in all, petty good miniatures and the price was very reasonable.

I can shoot some pictures and post them, if anyone is interested.
