It is with great reluctance that the NRWS announces the cancellation of Colours 2021. We have delayed taking this step for as long as possible, but have reached a point where a decision for September was unavoidable. Traders who have already booked will be contacted by our trade officer Ian, and we have already made a preliminary booking of our usual Newbury Racecourse venue for 2022. For our full statement, please see the Colours 2020 page on our web site at nrwc.org.uk/colours-2020. |

My sympathies. I have fond memories of the venue and the event. I hope things work out better for you next year. |

Thanks for all the work you do in making this a good show. I am sure 1 year off will not dent the long term reputation of this great show. martin

Also got a "404 – Page not found." But then noticed that there is a rogue period at the end that got added to the URL. Just delete the period to get the correct site. nrwc.org.uk/colours-2020 Jim |

Cancelling for an event in September? With all the progress in COVID vaccinations, seems that by September we should be in a place more normal? |

pzivh, if they bet that way, and they're wrong, they have to eat the cost of a convention, which might break them. How good would the chances have to be before you'd bet a major convention? I've argued with convention organizers over activities and venues, but however disappointed I've sometimes been, I've never yelled at them for being careful with their resources. Besides, I can remember when it was all going to be over by last September. |

A practical choice given the circumstances. I see no reason to be sanguine about the future – I fear a recurring cycle of restrictions/shut downs and brief let-ups as far as the eye can see. |

Colours 2020 cancelled Dear wargamer,
It is with great reluctence that the club has decided that it cannot run Colours 2021. That's confusing. |
| NRWS Organiser | 29 Apr 2021 10:13 p.m. PST |
That's recognised, Bill, and I have asked our publicity officer to address several issues on that page. Thank-you all for your kind comments. I am sorry that the punctuation of my post is causing some issues. As a club we can survive one bad show, but the question is really whether a regular annual wargaming event can survive one bad presentation. We really needed to start planning the show and approaching traders and contributors now for an event in September, and we do not believe it is fair to ask for the necessary degree of confidence at this time. I am sure we will all feel very foolish in September, but we have seen too many twists of fortune in the last 16 months to be really sure of anything. |

Really sorry to hear this, but entirely understandable. Always a great show at a superb location, I look forward to its return in 2022. |

Damn, a pity as I was looking forward to attending my 1st show in far too long. However, very understandable with all of the uncertainty as to future events and the pandemic. Here's hoping Colours 2022 will be back with a vengeance |

I'm not surprised given some messages from government advisors in the media. I wouldn't be too surprised if we ended up with no big shows this year. |

The club's official statement has been re-released at nrwc.org.uk/colours-2021 with no trailing punctuation to confound your browsers. Once again, we would like to apologise for earlier difficulties. I will continue to monitor this thread intermittently over the next two weeks to respond to questions as they arise. |

Look after yourself too Ian. This must all be making your head hurt. Wargames can wait. martin |

Disappointing but sensible – better to have no show for one more year than an unsuccessful one due to circumstances beyond your control. While I hope I'm wrong, I think there's a 50/50 chance of a further lockdown in the UK by late September/October depending on what happens to the infection rate once people start travelling overseas again, restaurants, bars and other venues reopen, and students return to university. We're not out of the woods yet, despite the vaccine programme. |

It's an insurance issue. Festivals and re-enactment events are being decimated because the insurance industry will not insure against cancellation. |
