The Alan D. Simmons Empire Napoleonic War Game Rules Discussion Forum. Does this forum on Facebook still run?
Thanks

Somewhere not long ago it was mentioned one of the social media forums has a Empire group. I should join just for that only never having one.

Froglidite25 Apr 2021 6:39 a.m. PST

The forum is still active and new members are joining.

Interesting: I've submitted 2 join requests to that Group over the past several months – to date, no response.

Yes, its very active.

Sorry Richard, wasn't thinking, you probably want more detail than that.

So, from the discussion on the Facebook Group it appears:

(1) Scott Bowden is essentially doing all the work himself this time
(2) It will be called EMPIRE VII
(3) He is in a position to publish it, or arrange to have it published, himself
(4) No re-basing will be necessary (for the naysayers :))
(5) It will include, and result from, Scott's continued learning, re-thinking and analysis over the last 25 years
(6) At this stage the thinking is that there will be 3 sets or scales at which you can play using the same core set of mechanics. All contained within the one rules set. Very roughly – (a) the traditional EMPIRE Army level, multi-Corp approach then (b) a set designed for divisional level actions, sub Corps and then even possibly (c) an approach that will occupy the slot of Chef d'Battalion and allow you to play with maybe just a brigade or so per side.

Or at least thats roughly what I gather from the various comments.

Again, I think that's some innovative thinking. At the moment I find myself needing to have a couple of rules sets in fairly regular use in order to wargame the period straight out of the history books, which is what floats my particular boat, we're all different :). I need a set that lets me re-fight the whole battle of Eylau but then sometimes I just want to do Auerstadt or the struggle for Plancenoit.

(7) Playtesting moves from Scott and his circle to a wider group based on the Facebook responders in the next few months
(8) Target for publishing is next year sometime.

Hope that helps, Nick

That's very good news. The Divisional scale sounds just up my street as I only have a 6' by 4' table and can only field a three Division Infantry Corps and say four Divisions of cavalry Plus Russians (1812) and Austrians (1809-14)

Glad the Discussion Group in running but like Joes Shop above I've had no response to my request to join?

The new scales will also tie in with the Empire Campaign rules and allow more campaign skirmishes to be played on the table top rather than use the patrol and screening rules which I don't really understand!

Will the French still always win?

Richard Alley27 Apr 2021 11:21 p.m. PST

French don't especially after 1809. Though I'm not sure why they get regimental artillery for 1812 when their Inf ratings are better than in 1809?

I don't think anyone's at home at the Alan Simmons Empire Discussion Group. They don;t seem to want new members.

Guys
I made a post two days ago on the other thread about joining. I have asked for an email requesting membership. I will not add anyone without an email to me because I have no idea who anyone is
I've added three members in the last two days
So if you have emailed and I have missed it, my apologies. I am human
My email is jshelton22@att.net

Just tell me who you are and your reasons for wanting to join. It's that simple. All I get from a FB request is "so and so has requested membership…). And a lot of these requests are obviously trolls and hackers. So please , just simply email me, I'll give a link, follow the link make a request and you're in…
😁
