Hey everyone!

I recently completed a Viking Longship that I thought I would share..

this is the Revell 1:50 Viking Longship model. I think a lot of folks use this as their Longship. It came together alright but I didn't do the best job of cutting it down to the waterline.

for some more pics and a short photo essay on the construction, please clink the link to the blog:

Now that I have 1 ship, of course I want another. I think next I'll pick up the OG 25mm Viking Longship. Right after I made some suitable shoreline for this one to sit on. : )

Ah! The the Long-Serpent will sail upon the white-crested grey-waves of the Whale-Way off the coast of the Spear-Danes!

cavcrazy23 Apr 2021 8:24 a.m. PST

Absolutely beautiful.

Oddball23 Apr 2021 9:01 a.m. PST

Very well done.

I can hear the cries of alarm from the coastal villages.

thumbs up!!

SBminisguy23 Apr 2021 10:23 a.m. PST

Sweet! Very cool, love to see some game reports with it!

Grelber23 Apr 2021 11:15 a.m. PST

Good report. The ship looks nice!
The Revell ship was very tempting, especially since the local HobbyLobby stocked them, and back then I could have used one of their 40% off coupons to buy it. Ultimately, I also had doubts about my ability to waterline the Revell ship, so I bought a Gripping Beast resin ship.
Like you, I found this makes it necessary to buy a second ship, which I have done, though I haven't painted it yet.

Hmmmm

You come from the land of the ice and snow
Where Vallejo paint and Testor's go
A long ship for the game
You'll drive your ship to new lands
Roll the dice, sing and cry
Valhalla, don't land on one….

On we dab, with stroking brush
Our only goal will be to win the game

Ah-ah, ah
Ah-ah, ah

whatever. Nice work!

Thank you very much everyone. I'm glad you liked it.

A couple of Longships sitting on the shore will definitely enhance the visual appeal of any Dark Ages game. But cutting the model down close to the waterline was hard, I don't think I would attempt it without power tools and even then it was tricky; but I'm not known for skill with power tools.

I have a good belt sander – like 125 -0 vs plastic, wood and resin hulls.

Very well done! I had that same model when I was a college student, and I crewed it with 25mm Hinchcliffe Vikings. Now I want see if I can find my Vikings in storage and find another longboat.

Berzerker7323 Apr 2021 5:39 p.m. PST

Great job!

Thanks again folks!

@Virtual; lol. Yes a belt sander would do the trick nicely. I used a dremel and couldn't quite keep the cut even.

@Ober; I too am looking for the second longship. I'm eye balling the old glory one in 25mm but there are some MDF kits out there too.

Beautiful looking ship. You did a great job. Not to steal your thread, but I have been eyeing this one

And wondered if anyone here has seen it in person or purchased it.

I used to float mine in the pool… ;-)

Arjuna23 Apr 2021 10:53 p.m. PST

Great work!

But beware, there is danger of cross sea on that towel!

@Paul; I considered that one as well but I don't like the fact that there is no mast.
Other contenders for a longship are;
OG as mentioned
Sarissa
Tregames
Dark ops

What a perfect brown for the ship. What color(s) did you use?
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Duke,
Thanks!
I used Liquitex paints. It was just burnt Siena mixed with some grey for the base and then just the BS dry brushed over it. I used Vallejo tan earth to do the strips on the deck.

Hope that helped.

blackjack07127 May 2021 2:53 a.m. PST

Beautiful! You did a great job.
