I have a Playmobile colosseum set. Any ideas on how to make it look less toy like and more like a model?

I have been doing one of those for years Just missing one piece that is still to high on after markets. To make it work… It all depends on how much work you want to put into it (adding stairs, fixing up the interior. re working the royal box etc. first thing is to get rid of all the actual toy parts then a nice paint job helps (I have used Pokorny paints from dwarven forge they work nice) base it and sand the base and that's about it. Unless you want to do the subterranean level.

What color are you painting it? Spray or brush?

I have a collection of the gladiators, but have not tried to do the colosseum. Will you be doing gaming, or just a diorama?

Also did some chariot games on an abstract hippodrome

You have a nice collection. I want to use it for gaming with my 28mm gladiators

I also got one of these to use with my 40mm Gladiators from Steve Barber & I intended to use Rustoleum Textured Stone Grey spray paint (which is not cheap); I started on the gate pieces & even 2 full cans didn't cover them completely. I hope using grey primer before the textured paint will give a suitable coating.

Rustoleum— let me see about this. Thanks for the idea!

Spurious, have you started painting yet?
