The next figure pair in the civilian range I am working on. This time a village elder to frail for a fight? Not really I would say. Better look twice!

Funny thing but Legion 4 is rarely wrong about such.

I suspect in VN it was a fairly safe bet anyway.

Surely someone will do us some ARVN one day. Just a few would do. Skinny guys, huge helmets and weapons/kit and ridiculously tight trousers….not too much to ask, for one of the largest armies in the world at the time

I still see MAT49 SMGs in use by sentries, though wikipedia says they are not in the arsenal any more.

The Various AK models are ubiquitous of course, and the 500 000 M16s captured post 1975 are still in use by militia etc.

Interestingly the M1 Garand is still in use by militia, while the M14 is in storage. Kind of figures as the M14 was, I gather quite a beast to fire effectively.

Well as I said I was trained by and served along side many NCO/Officers who served in the Vietnam War. So I picked up some good "tips" on staying alive, etc.,. 😎

I always liked the looks of the MAT-49 but never fired one. Remember seeing it when I was young in the movie "Lost Command" being used but French Paras, at DBP and later in Algeria. link The main character, was played by Anthony Quinn, who was based on the legendry French Para Officer, Bigeard … Worth a look ! I read both the books the movie was based on too. Good reads as well …

In '75 in ROTC we were issued M14s. Then later M16s a year or two later(?). The M14 is a full 7.62 NATO FMJ vs. the M16 which is 5.56mm assault rifle round.

IIRC, old fart the M14 with loaded mag is almost 12 lbs. vs. the M16 w/load mag is about 8 lbs. Plus the M14 is a standard long rifle vs. the M16, an Assault Rifle. I've obviously used/fired both.

But I can see where a smaller leaner Asian may have an easier time using the M16 vs the M14. I'd think even the M1 Garand, which I have used/fired also, may be a bit more difficult for an Asian as well. Again firing a full .30 cal. rifle round.
