I have set up my game table to represent the Battle of Freeman's Farm for my American Revolution game of the same name.

I use Cigar Box Battle mats and lots of buildings/fences/trees made by Herb Gundt. The civilians are a diverse collection of Fife and Drum Miniatures, Perry Miniatures, Dixon and a few others. You can never have too many 18th C civilians on your game table.

Oh nice. As soon as I saw this the thought popped in my head to ask you if this will be at SYWC. I see a subsequent post saying it will. Awesome.

If Covid doesn't get in the way I will be at SYWC and do really want to play in this game.

Fantastic setup.

According to Eric, the fields at Freeman's farm were fallow, as Freeman was a Loyalist and had fled the area the previous months/year. Nice set up. :-)

This looks stunning. I am surprised though how open it all is.

When you read more of the battle in recent books, you get a better understanding of why the British could not just place all their troops in a line, as they had to worry about flank and rear security – as the enemy could have been anywhere. That's something many wargamers don't take into account.

@ history gamer: I am seeing the same deployment problem with the current terrain set up. I while probably remove the farm in the upper left corner and reduce the size of the adjacent plowed fields. This will enable me to deploy three British regiments in line and add more wooded area to the table top.

The farm on the bottom left-center of the picture has since been altered. I removed the green fenced in area and moved the log cabin to the left. I filled in the newly vacated area with more trees. So the cabin is now sited to the left of the yellow enclosed field

Much, much better than mine. Same map but more stuff. That is more detail. I will have to upgrade to keep pace.

Baranovich09 Apr 2021 2:48 p.m. PST

That table is simply freaking awesome.

I will be hosting this Freeman's Farm game at this year's Seven Years War Association Convention on August 5-7, 2021. My game will be hosted on Friday afternoon of August 6th and Saturday afternoon of August 7th. The convention will be held at the Ramada By Wyndom hotel in South Bend, Indiana.

I hope to see and meet a lot of TMPers at the convention.

Blasted Brains15 Jul 2021 8:07 p.m. PST

Won't make the convention but looks good. And: "You can never have too many 18th C civilians on your game table." A statement I full-heartedly agree with. (not a typo, not an autocorrect, by the way) A game ought to be handsome – or even pretty – so a few lads and lasses scattered about enhance most games to my way of thinking.

Looks awesome 😎
