My history of HMGS has gone AWOL. Does anyone remember or know off-hand what years the first Cold Wars convention and the first Historicon were held, and whether there were any "gap years" prior to the recent unpleasantness? I know Fall In was 1997 and no gaps I noticed.

There is a convention archive on the HMGS web site, looks like the first Historicon was in 1984. Not sure about Cold Wars, check out the archive.

Thank you, cepammi. But if by "archive" you mean if you go to the home page of a particular convention, then click on "Home" there--sadly, it only works for Historicon.

Pat Condray took a chance and contracted with the
Holiday Inn located just a mile or so W of the
Woodrow Wilson Bridge on I-95. That was two years after
the foundation meeting in Wally Simon's basement
to establish what has become HMGS.

That first con was organized by Pat and he got the
Potomac Wargamers organized to staff it.

And yes, 1984.

I stumbled into Cold Wars 1987 (although it may have been 1988)

The first two were not called Cold Wars but historic on Mini-cons. I was at the Cold Wars in the dark annex was where they put dealers. Sheridan in Carrollton. I drove all the ay from Alabama to sell.

I hate spell auto correct. Historicon mini-con for the first Cold Wars.

The irascible but irresistibly entertaining and devoted champion of historical miniature wargaming Pat Condray may have been taken from us too early, but he did leave behind a valuable historical document that recorded the formative years of HMGS and birth of the HMGS East gaming conventions.

FWIW.
