Hello: I need a painting guide for early WW2 US Marines; Wake Island and the Philippines. I use Vallejo if that helps.

VMC Brown Violet for the deepest recesses followed by VMC Khaki for the basecoat and VPA US Tankcrew Highlight for highlights.

VMC don't make Brown Violet anymore. You can still get it in their model air range. It brush paints on fine. Just need a couple of coats.

The colour is still available but the name has changed

Vallejo Model Color 887 US Olive Drab (ex Brown Violet)

I was not aware of this.

I still can't believe they did away with such a useful color.
