Ottoman Turk? Brit with the Brodie helmet? |

I think they looked like British colonial troops. They may have preferred the pith helmet over the Brodie helmet. They may have worn the keffiyeh but I think that was more common in the Arab Legion in what is now Jordan. link link |

There's Pathe footage of troops in the '41 revolution. I'd use WWI British to proxy them, although the British had supplied a bunch of '36 gear to the Iraqi army. Some of the British units that marched over from Palestine were very peeved to be told to return some captured '36 gear. |

I'm thinking WWI British in tropical dress for the Middle East/East Africa. I know 1/72 gamers tend to use WWI Turkish heads, but I'd go with Woodbine Design Company pith helmets and neck flaps which you'll have to create from scratch (either greenstuff or tin foil).
Here's a good Pathe clip: YouTube link Some of the fellows seem to be wearing tunics with bandoleers, so WWI Western Front British cavalry would also work?
This is from the 50s, but it seems the only difference being British pattern socks and anklets instead of puttees. |

Two of the images won't load here on this thread. Just right click and choose the "open image in new tab" option. If you're intending to portray them in 28mm, these ought to make for very good starting points: link The police also figured quite heavily in the actions, and the good news is watercolors of them can be found on the IWM site. |

Turns out one of the pictures that won't show is a still from the tail-end of this equally useful clip: YouTube link Not that the narrator describes them as loyalist reinforcements for the empire. |

tin foil hats, you say? Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me… |
