Has anyone played these rules? They look interesting, but $20 USD is rather steep for a pdf of a game I can't find any reviews on. afirebellinthenight.com |

My group play tested them and sent in various thoughts, changes, etc., but the rules pretty much got printed as they were. While they may be worth a play just to see how the mechanics work (it's the same guys who did Age of Reason), I wouldn't rebase or give up your existing rules. There's nothing terribly wrong with them, but there's better ACW rules out there. |

They look like rules of that name I did a play-test on ages ago. Wouldn't pay that price for the rules, but the rules were pretty short. Is there a lot of supplementary material? Maps? OOB? |

No supplementary material as far as I know. They have one scenario in the core book but that's it. Their website seems fairly dead as well. |

Posting a reply from Tod Kershner - =================================== Gentlemen, here is what 3 major wargaming magazines thought of Firebell: "If the title seems a little obscure, the rules (Fire Bell) seem pretty much spot on in presenting a good simulation of large scale ACW conflict and does represent an alternative to the popular Fire and Fury set, also aimed at brigade level." Paul D. Stevenson, Miniature Wargames #363 "It is well thought out. In general, the rule-set is interesting, medium complexity and clearly oriented "strategic (grand tactical) level". Vae Victus "Firebell is a thinking man's game…These are fun rules. A lot of work from some very experienced gamers went into this rules set and it shows. Gamers owe it to themselves to give Firebell a try." Steve Dake, Wargames Illustrated, issue 316. |

I wrote a detailed summary of the mechanics and desciption of what you get in the book here: link The rules themselves run 31 pages, while the rest of the book is comprised of a blank roster for copying, a terrain summary chart, and an extensive list of leader ratings for players to use in developing their own scenarios. There is no index but there is a detailed table of contents. |

Id forgotten the command ratings. Or they were added later? Sorry Tod. Anything with both a roster and a set of commander ratings isn't coming home with me. Price really isn't a factor at that stage. For me, the Four Horsemen of the Miniature Wargaming Apocalypse are Activation Rolls, Rosters, Commander Ratings and Scale Creep. |

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I'll stick with Brigade Fire and Fury and Pickett's Charge. |

Robert, Are your referring to the Print Copy or the retail PDF Copy with your remarks? Thanks, John |
