I don't listen to many wargaming podcasts and I have realised it is partly because they are far too long… I do listen to a fair number of podcasts on various subjects and they vary from a quick 10 minute update from the Economist to about 40 minutes from something like Americast on american politics. I can cope with something that is under 1 hour but after that my attention starts to drift. Why are so many wargaming podcasts 90-120 minutes long or even longer. I can't contemplate listening to people waffle on for 2.5 hours! I would rather listen to a tightly edited 40 minutes on one subject. Anyone recommend some shorter more focused podcasts? THanks Mike |

Not much help here because I usually listen to podcasts while painting so longer podcasts are a bonus for me. |

That is the reason I don't bother with podcasts, I tried once and was sooo bored! |

Depends on the podcast. Some I find interesting so the extra time is great, others that drone on about nothing I just turn off and delete. |

I'm with Big Red, I usually listen to podcasts while painting, the longer the better as there is very little interruptions. If there is no current podcast of those I listen to I then go to Old Time Radio to listen to radio serials. |

I seldom feel like committing to even a one hour block of time for a podcast. Somebody posted a link to a podcast here on TMP a couple weeks ago, I checked on it, found it only ran 13 minutes, watched it, got back to him and complimented him on keeping it short. Which doesn't explain why they run 90-120 minutes, but it does say you aren't the only one that feels that way, Mike. Grelber |

Podcasts required careful pre-planning and editing. Far too many waffle on with a "stream of concsienness" |

As someone who produces podcast that typically run between 90 and 120 minutes, I can only say that I make a podcast that I myself would enjoy listening to. Conversely, I rarely listen to a podcast that lasts less than 30 minutes. I normally listen to podcasts whilst commuting or painting. My commute is around 45 minutes each way, so I dont want a podcast to finish halfway through my journey. Each to their own though and I accept that my own podcasts take some investment in time and concentration. |

I listen to podcasts while painting, so a couple of hours is fine. |

Boredom is not a product of podcast length; it's the result of poor presentation, unengaging content, or both. |

Long podcasts are OK while painting, cleaning up and inking, or painting, but they have to be interesting. Even so, I don't find much time for them. Even worse are long YouTube videos that require watching to make sense of everything. You can't paint your way through those. Unless it's important real-time instruction and demonstration, YouTubers need to keep it short. |

I much prefer a longer podcast, I listen whilst I'm painting or on my commute to work which is an hour an 15 each way. So a short Podcast would mean stopping and changing to a new episode all the time. Having just started my own Yarkshire Gamer Reet Big Wargames Podcast, I've found that the two episodes I did naturally ran to around 90 minutes. In general peoples attention span has shortened hence the drive for 10 a side skirmish games which are over in an hour, YG is more about massive multi player games with 1000s of figures over a weekend, that deserves a long Podcast lol. Oddly on the Utubes the vids that tend to get most views are the game play through ones some of which are hours long. You can't please all the people, all the time. Regards Ken The Yarkshire Gamer |
