I mean a movie where by the virtue of being nerds, they become heroic. You can ignore this structure at your pleasure. After all, THIS IS TMP!!! Nobody cares if you stray and don't follow the rules. I have two favorites. Apollo 13. A bunch of guys with crew cuts, short sleeved white shirts, pocket protectors and slide rules (Never forget the slide rules!) solve how to keep Our Heroes alive and not die. The Martian. This could almost be the same movie. Mark Watney figures how to stay alive by growing food in …. by "Sciencing the out of it!" Then there's Ms Park, and Rich Purcell, the Steely Eyed Missile Man. God love nerds! |

Ghostbusters. … Just in case anybody needs a helping link to learn Tango, I may take you to the candy shop and suggest a little gem lying in my spider lair. More or less everything you never or ever wanted to know about media tropes. TVTropes.org And here you may find some inspiration, somewhat related to the question: Give Geeks A Chance on TVTropes … If you really want to dig deeper that rabbit hole, Lazarus, there still is Joseph Campbells 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces' 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces' on Wikipedia A more academic work some minor artists like Bob Dylan and George Lucas cite as their influence. And if that Skywalker familiy pest isn't the royal family of geekdom I don't know. Just saying, before and after episodes IV and V there was just mediocrity. Allthough I heard some of the spin-offs are quite good. But they just come to late for me. |

@Timbo W Ah no, I'm a freelancer. I work for my own amusement. You shouldn't frother to much, spoils the stomach. The only way I ever used socks in my life, beside wearing them, was with a hart bar of soap in it. |

No Highway in the Sky. Jimmy Stewart plays an Uber boffin aircraft engineer in a highly fictionalized rendering of the 1950s BOAC Comet crash investigations. Watch the early version without the dubbed soundtrack. Also, The Man Who Never Was. And, The 13th Warrior…"at one time I was a poet, in the greatest city in the world…" Lawrence of Arabia, tho his "triumph" proved more than a bit hollow. |

The Big Short (2015): Michael Burry (played by Christian Bale) is a supernerd hedge fund manager who actually reads all of the documents that comprise and define a mortgage-backed security (MBS). That leads him to short the MBS market, to his hedge fund's great profit. |

Flight of the Phoenix either the 1965 or 2004 (I prefer the earlier version). In 1965 the plane crashes in the Sahara and in the Gobi Desert in 2004; the nerd whose job is designing model planes redesigns the full-sized plane, the crew and passengers rebuild it according to his plan, it works, they fly back to safety.
