"Waaaay back in 1982, the wargames industry was reeling from the death of SPI. Meanwhile, roleplaying games were the new hotness as TSR was hitting its stride. Dungeons and Dragons had firmly usurped the time and dollars of the gaming public and Gary Gygax sat perched on the teetering throne called TSR…"

I saw you say this in another post also. I truly hope that this is not the case.

So then sometime after that TSR created Star Frontiers, but wasn't Traveler already around at that time?

I think that this is more of a tabletop game with rpg elements as opposed to a straight role playing game, Sargonarhes. I could be reading that wrong, but that was my impression from the write up.

Read a few reviews on BoardGameGeek and watched a game on YouTube.

This is a board game that lends itself to solitaire play. Essentially, you command a starship and explore 4 planets in a sector. There's the potential for random encounters while travelling. Once at a planet you roll for the type of missions and assign landing parties to complete those missions.

Because of this, I took the plunge to buy the game. So thanks Tango for the original post (my wallet does not thank you though!).

Wow, that is pretty tempting. I like the ship's log format for a session report.

Norrins, once you get it and get around to playing it post on TMP. I'd like to know what you think.
