I wouldn't normally post from the Daily Mail, but this might be of interest. The RAF have approved research funding for a modular trainer; one in which the same fuselage can be fitted with a variety of different cockpits, engines, avionics and even wings to suite different training needs.

As always with British 'training' aircraft, I see that it can also be armed for front-line use by smaller air forces.
