Here are a few of mine.
Paradise, by John Prine, sadly missed. Bill Monroe called it one of the greatest bluegrass songs, even though it has few traditional bluegrass instrumentation.

"You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive", by Darrell Scott. Here covered by Patty Loveless.

Dark as a Dungeon, by the king of mining songs, Merle Travis.

Travis also wrote 16 Tons, here performed by Tennessee Ernie Ford.

I have a few more I could add later.

Just listened to "Diggy Diggy Hole" for the first time. Thank you Robert Piepenbrink, it really cheered up my day, and yes it definitely does count as a mining song.

My father was a coal miner, as was his brother and father and his brothers too. The only male in the family apart from me who wasn't a coal miner was my uncle Jock who delivered coal by horse and cart.

They were all members of the local Burns club and could sing any of his repertoire. I never heard them singing anything else.

"Big Branch" by Gangstagrass. I'm generally not a fan of Hip-Hop but this fusion of Rap and Bluegrass just nails it.

Let me throw in, Mining for Gold by Cowboy Junkies. In the best folk tradition, all you have to do is change "gold" to "coal" and bob's your uncle. it even scans.

The song is called Put u srediste rudnika Kreka Banovici (The Voyage to the Center of the Mine Kreka) by the Yugoslav Band Zabranjeno Pusenje. Recorded in 1984. The band is from Sarajevo. The song talks about the explosion in the mine, in 1982, that killed 39 miners. Talks about the consternation in the homes of the killed after the news reached them, and the ghosts of miners watching the charity concert for their benefits.

Doesn't specificaly say coal, but it's inspired by the Aberfan disaster. Besides, what else does one mine in New York?

Uesugi Kenshin has the correct attribution. I likewise prefer the Devo cover to the original.
