I am struggling with my project 1:1 ratio for the Battle of Turin 1706. I am now focusing on the organization of the French Regiments of Dragoons, because I found different opinions. a) for Robert HAll: the regiment was on 3 squadrons, each of 4 companies (30/60) men, so for a total of (max) 720 men/regiment b) others: the regiment was on 4 squadrons, each 3 companies with 35 men (so 420 men). I do prefer the second option because: 1) at the battle 30 squadrons of foot Dragoons where deployed around the castle of Lucento for 3.000 men (all sources agree on these numbers, as squadrons and men) 2) at the battle of Turin 1 regiment of Dragoons fought will ALL 4 squadrons (so the number of Hall doesn't match) 3) no cavalry regiment was so numerous (720 men) Hence I prepared 1 companies with the following men 1 capitain 1 Lieutenant 1 Cornet (second Lieutenant) 1 marechal de logis (NCO) 2 corporals 1 drummer 1 hautebois (?) did they really fought with the unit? 24 men (actually less because at least 3/4 men remained with the horses) Second question: the mucicians fought all together as one back the regiment or back every sigle squadrons? Thanks

Paperbattles- I think by the WSS, the various company musicians (at least drummers/fifers/hautbois) were being grouped together when deployed for a formal battle. Not sure about trumpeters of the cavalry. |

@reallysame etc. Thanks I actually drew an oboist
I agree they were put together, but the doubt is: all the musicians of a squadrons or of the regiment? So every squadron had 3 oboist and 3 drummers together, or it was a real sinphony with 12 drummers and 12 oboist (total of regiment) put together? Thanks |
