"On paper at least, the European Main Battle Tank could be a heavy-hitter.

The joint Franco-German European Main Battle Tank venture aims at leveraging aspects of France and Germany's tank programs to build a technologically advanced tank that both countries hope could be introduced into service Europe-wide…"

There has been talk for sometime about going to 130mm instead of the almost NATO standard of 120mm. Going to 140mm is interesting too. But bigger ammo may mean you can carry less rounds. But I don't know the design specs. etc. And I'm sure they are looking at that …

Do either Germany and or France have the money to develop & build this tank? Plus do they need it?

The French will buy just enough for the annual Bastille Day military parades on the Champs-Elysees whilst the German ones will be unserviceable in some depot.

Only operational ones will be in some Arab military, getting knocked out by insurgents.

Many pockets will be lined and many summer houses acquired on the French Riviera

Everyone's a winner.

Meh -- unimpressed unless they put this into service…

Surprised they haven't done this earlier. They previously collaborated on a helicopter gunship (Eurocopter Tiger).

I doubt they have the money, or the determination to build it/them.

I think arealdeadone is on to something.

I read that the 130mm turret was considered for the UK's Challenger II SLEP but they (we) went for the existing standard 120mm. A bit of a missed opportunity IMHO.

Yep that is a very good assessment … and may very well be prophetic.

As far as the Nazi Ratte "Land Battleship", huge slow moving target for everything with a ranged weapon or aircraft bombs, rockets, etc. … Shapeways make some in a number of scales from IIRC, 2mm, 6mm, etc., on up. I have to stop myself from getting one for my 6mm SF inventory. 😁 It would probably not last long on the gaming table either …
