Do you use the points system for composing forces when playing Warlord Games' Bolt Action?

Little Red10 Feb 2021 5:45 p.m. PST

No. Scenarios only.

Cardinal Ximenez10 Feb 2021 5:47 p.m. PST

Nope. Scenarios.

Berzerker7310 Feb 2021 6:10 p.m. PST

No to points, scenarios only as well.

I almost always do points, but then again I like matched play games.

I was impressed by the Bolt Action tournament at my local convention a year ago, and set about building my army up to 1000 points (which is what they used for the tournament). I suppose I could have just added more infantry, which would have been historically accurate. However, I also added heavy equipment, some of which was very rare, and at least one item of which was probably never used.
Now, with Covid-19, we won't be having a convention this month. While I like the individual pieces of equipment very much, part of me realizes that my army is now only marginally more historical than if I'd collected dwarves or orcs.
So, while I understand why we are doing points, if left to myself, I think I'd be happier doing scenarios.

Historic scenarios.

Points. Easier to say "bring a 1000 point force" than design a scenario.

50% of the time. We tend to play a lot of the scenarios from the campaign books now.

ataulfo11 Feb 2021 2:40 a.m. PST

I play solo, scenarios only.

Points even for scenarios

I play BA quite often and use points in weekly games for convenience: we come to play with equal points and roll up the scenario randomly. We use scenarios when we play multiplayer with the group however.

Generally points -- 3:2 Offense:Defense. 1500 points attacking 1000 points defending.

I mostly use points with base scenarios generated from the rulebook. I use an on line terrain generator to set up the table. Always have good games.

I also like historical scenarios but only for special game event as they take time to research and set up.

At home we play scenarios, mostly with a company in attack and a platoon (ish) in defence. For events we use 1000 point armies – most of which we provide. We will be having one at Arnhem in September --- we have a FB page with the highly-original name 'Arnhem21'.
