Do you play Bolt Action 'straight' (by the official rules) or with your own house rules instead?

Bashytubits08 Feb 2021 2:00 p.m. PST

My house, my house rules. Hehe. wink

ataulfo08 Feb 2021 2:15 p.m. PST

So far, by the book.

Straight, no chaser. So far, I have found no reason to augment the rules presented.

Looks as if Bill is picking up the slack while Tango is incarcerated. (grin)

House rules to adapt to other periods.

House rules to allow you to use proper section level tactics

Nah, just curious. I almost always play rules as they're written.

Straight, AFAIK. I don't have BA, but SEMBO and I play it when others set it up.

Straight for 28mm skirmish, but substantially modded for doing 10mm base=squad home-ruled variant – Blitz Action.

'O' Group will be replacing my use of Blitz Action to play company/battalion level gaming in the future.

Standard Bolt Action has played fine for our WW2 skirmish itch….the only 'modding' we've done, was to play it with our own scenarios (never in a tournament, match-based format).

Don't know about you, but I like my BA rules a bit queer.

I know Bill, just giving you a hard time. Keep up the good work.

With house rules – a page of them…

We play 'out of the bottle' for big games that we set up at shows – some minor amendments. For a long time we played a field-stripped version at home with lots of amendments and simplifications to make company actions fun and credible. The changes have now outgrown the original rules so what we play at home nw has no real relationship to BA, however when something unusual arises we generally look to the BA rulebook for a resolution. Oddly, we still use BA pretty much 'as written' for the Indian Mutiny and it works really well. '

Straight out of the book. No house rules. Hate using house rules for any ruleset. If it is that bad, then I pick another ruleset. No one is perfect.

My son plays Bolt Action and he likes it. If he is having fun I am not going to change it.

There are other skirmish rules I think are better, but I find it easier to play rules others are familiar with.

Just getting back into BA after a long hiatus. Straight. Solo.
