These HaT Late Roman medium cavalry were a positive joy to paint.
This is a 4 figure unit.

I believe the half-armoured horses may be a stretch in historical terms but they look nice.

These figures just about complete my small L. Roman "army" (about 108 figures) – unless I can acquire some of the HaT L.Roman infantry to add to my Newline & Italeri figures.

Part of the small size of the units is so I can fight SAGA games as well as larger battles with home-groan rules.

Nice! I'm a fan of the era. You have given yourself a lot of flexibility by basing that way. Smart! I wish someone would release Byzantines. They have opponents already available. I used to own a painted/unpainted Hinchliffe Byzantine army back in the day. Traded it for cash and a load of painted/unpainted Heritage Republican Romans and Carthaginians. I still have them. I have picked up some of that Byzantine army I found on Ebay 40 years later. I have Hat figs for the Late roman era. Just nothing done with them. I'll actually probably get my 6mm Baccus ones done first.

Thanks.

John

Thanks, John.

I've looked into it (but by no means an expert!) & I can't see much difference between Late Romans & Early Byzantines. A unit or two of Eastern Horse archers & I'm good.

At the moment, these chaps have enough to do to combat hordes of Saxon raiders but I may eventually build an army of eastern opponents for them to fight.

I am tempted by the Hat Late Romans, but I have so much on my plate already.

Love these – makes me seriously consider getting some to paint.
