During my first stint in Japan, despite the massive differences in cuisine and a firm conviction that seaweed and sparrows shouldn't be eaten, I came to the conclusion that the Japanese and the British were very much alike in many ways: They are an island nation that historically fell out with their neighbours. Yep, another resource for the two to battle over in the region, though the Chinese are sending their fleets far and wide over the Pacific as well. A major fishing fleet is working near the Galapagos Islands, and causing consternation with many South American countries who fear they'll wipe out the fish stocks there like they've done in other areas, causing them to have to sail so far away for more productive areas. |
