Like the Australians in the Pacific, the Canadians were relegated to a "secondary theater" which saw vicious fighting and where they distinguished themselves highly. Their stories deserve to be better know.

Hi

Re: "the Canadians were relegated to a "secondary theatre""

There was of course 1st Canadian Army fighting in NW Europe 1944-45……hardly a "secondary theatre". Where of course they also distinguished themselves highly.

The whole "Secondary Theatre" (However it is spelt) idea is disgusting. Facing an MG42, whether on the Italian Peninsula or Southern France, was not much different in the bocage of Normandy.

The Canadian input to D-Day, whether airborne or Juno beach, has always been the poor relation in the written word. As for the Netherlands, definitely way off the glamour map!

The Canadians liberated my mother's home town of Campobasso. Mind you, they did have to put a new roof on the house as a shell knocked the hell out of it.

Regardless … the Canucks & "ANZACs" performed with great tactical expertise, etc. No matter where they fought.
