With adequate planning, training, and experience as an integrated unit, an LCS surface action group could be a formidable offensive weapon.

Even in packs, the LCS still will striggle to survive as they lack anything but the most basic air defences. Their ASW capability is limited as well. And their damage output is limited.

Also their seakeeping is poor so they have to operate in littoral areas in range of eveyrging the enemy can throw at them.

Finally they are proving to be mechanically unreliable with breakdowns common place in the fleet.

Basically you can't polish a piece of excrement.

Finally like most US authors he forgets about the enemy (China) who in this case has a truly formidable littoral defence force that is much bigger and whose even smaller shops pack more punch than an LCS.

The Little Crappy Ship?

Why?

So they can look at each other and feel shame?

That is an excellent idea, so that one can tow the other(s) if/when they break down.

Reading the history of the Battle of the Atlantic one
gets the impression that U-boats were more easily
killed when operating in packs…

The best evidence of the corruption of the military procurement process is the LCS. Billions of dollars wasted (with billions more planned to be wasted) on a ship which cannot reliably deploy and is incapable of performing in any major naval mission area.
