I really like the NORTHAG rule set, but I do have some issues. We started out playing a "Platoon" Sized game of 500 points. This creates a weird issue for the Soviet player who can buy 2 full tank companies and a motorized infantry platoon and more. The problem is that there are not nearly enough command points to operate a force this size. Which means that 2/3 of a Tank company sat static in an open field while getting shot at and unable to return fire. We may have to create a house rule to allow unordered units to shoot in their own turn. I don't think this issue will be a problem in a 1,000 point game oddly enough. With a 1,000 point game you end up with a lot of air defense units and support units that don't need to be moved around the battlefield or only need to use 1 order occasionally. This frees up more orders for combat units. Plus you easily end up 4 or 5 officers to add orders to a die roll.

My other issues are with the rulebook. Page 52 Electronic Warfare special rule states that you can reduce your opponents next reinforcement roll to a 6.???. A roll of 6 is the best roll you can make. Did they mean you reduce the roll by 1D6? Another issue is shooting at helicopters. This is done with suppressing fire. If you only use suppressing fire why do AA units have penetration values and a Hind have armor values? Why do Chieftains have a special rule of "unreliable" in the stats section (page 101) but this is not the case in the Battlegroup builder list? On Page 21 the combat example has a Chieftain shooting an infantry team with direct fire. But on page 23 we learn that infantry only take suppressing fire. And my last 2 issues are with the special rules. Some units have the communications special order but this isn't explained. I assume it just allows a Tactical Command center to choose 1 extra unit. I would think that the British ground surveillance unit would have the Ground Surveillance special rule but it doesn't and neither do any other units. Just curious to see what you'll think?

I play Battlegroup, which is from the same author. I can't respond to these specific issues, but Battlegroup does have a fantastic group on facebook that the authors are a part of and they respond to rules questions. It may be worth it to look for the support group there.

Have any of you played Team Yankee and Northag? How do they compare? I am tempted to purchase the rules and use the fan made US stats while using my Team Yankee miniatures.
