Hi all: getting ready to paint some 20mm SHQ to use both for
-Anzio, Feb. 1944
-Bulge, December 1944

Questions

1) was there as much color variation for greatcoats as there was for trousers and tunics?

2) any recommendations for accurate brush paint (not spray) colors in Vallejo or Testors Model masters? Thanks!

I'd go a shade darker than what you are using for the base uniforms. I'd think that they would have less wear than the everyday tunic and trousers

There seems to have been just as much variation along the grey/green scale as the wool uniforms. I've got a 1941 dated original and it is distinctly grey. As Saber6 says, maybe go a shade darker as they are less likely to be exposed to fading and more likely to be wet(!)

Thanks, Martin and thanks, Saber6…..What Vallejo would you recommend?

I have a Tee shirt that says 50 shades of FieldGrau.

MacColla18 Jan 2021 12:21 p.m. PST

I would go with Vallejo Field Grey.
