At past Cold Wars and Historicons I watched the famous Moby Dick games. They looked like great fun and I am interested in doing something like them.

Does anyone knew who put them on, or the rules used? Also any helpful hints about doing so. I have four of the boats and crews from Eureka miniatures and am hunting down a whale figure.

I saw that game in action too, watched it for a while, the players were definitely enjoying themselves.

Nice find – OFM. That looks very close to what was on that game table in my memory. Not that anyone should rely on my memory though I suppose.

You can play Mountain's "Nantucket Sleighride" as background music.

Check out Houston Beer and Pretzel Wargaming site. They have what your looking for. Go to main site, to more then to spec ops menu, and to The Great White Whale folder. They have their own set and the issue number from Wargames Illustrated #99 article by Chris Peers. Rules download and pictures. Good luck and happy hunting!

Looks like you'll have to track down John Rigley from Albany NY:

From Historicon 2005 Program:

Yeah. It's easier for the whale to get away if things go South.

Still looking for the Moby Dick rules… after a certain person, mentioning no names Mike, absconded to the East Coast with our whale… he won't give us a copy of the rules, mentioning no names Gesser, after we 3D'd a new 3 foot whale, 7 inch hex stands, got new boats, crew and shark bait.. the rules are being held hostage…

Any one, other than the fore mentioned mentioning no names MG, have a copy? 🙈

Sounds like a whale of a time.

I'm currently doing something similar, only using Playmobil Viking longships (approximately 8 inches in length) and 28 mm Viking miniatures vs the Kraken or sea serpent. Nothing like some good Viking sea lore!
