Were there any tank battles within the city itself? Yes, there was much tank vs. tank action in the campaign but what about inside the actual city. And yes, German assault guns and tanks were employed inside the city, but did they ever encounter Soviet tanks? Thanks in advance for any information.

As I recall the most significant tank on tank battles were part of the Kotluban Operations north of the city early on in the battle – the Russians I believe had armour and were chopped up, but slowed the Germans enough that it has been argued they lost the battle but won the war

In the city itself the Stalingrad Tank Factory was cranking out tanks that went right into the front lines, often minus paint (and sometimes gun sights) until the German captured the place – after that it was pretty much all guns and grunts for the Russians

Similar clashes in the city were not uncommon.

As noted, detachments of Soviet tanks were used inside the city, but in fairly small groups (same as the Germans, all those pesky buildings get in the way).

I recall I made several battle scenario for Stalingrad. One involved taking the RR station with tanks and Stugs and a counter attack with T-34s and KVs. There was a lot of infantry involved as well.

Most of the soviet armor was dug in as it was in disrepair/ out of parts/gas. They rafted a few tanks over when the river wasn't frozen.
