Hello everyone, I recently found some color paintings of generals that I have only seen in black and white so far. Also, the one of General Paris d'Illins is the first I have seen. General de Division Dominique-Louis-Antoine Klein
General de Division Pierre Hugues Victoire Merle
General de Brigade Antoine-Marie Paris d'Illins (1746-1809) Killed at Battle of Ocana
General de Brigade JOSEPH ANTOINE BARBANÈGRE (Would like to find the original one in color!)
My personal favorite portrait of Colonel Louis Bro painted by Louis Leopold Boily
I am sure this second younger portrait of the man is more well known.

Thanks for posting these MarbotsChasseurs. Was especially interested in Klein and d'Illins, who I have not seen before. John |

Marulaz1, I was glad to find one of Paris d'Illins as he played a key role in the victory at the Battle of Ocana. This was also th first time I had seen him. I must admit, Klein looks much younger than the black and white portrait. |

I imagine you are already familiar with the French magazines Tradition and Glorie & Empire. They have a lot of stuff like this. John |

Nice stuff… I like my men, coloured :-) That BARBANÈGRE tho, looks a might disproportionate… doctored?? d BTW Mike I'd class these as /Media/- perhaps a note to Bill? |

thanks a lot again, for your hard work, Barbanègere portrait in colour looks like post Napoleonic. |

Von W, For me the Klein painting looks somewhat fake or touched it up too much with modern software. Whoever the painter was, they were very skilled as the skin looks very life like. However, there is no doubt it is the same man. |

Taken from Dr. Gorchkoff Facebook page link "Louis Leopold BOILLY (1761-1845). Portrait of the Colonel of the 1st Hunter Regiment (King Hunters) (May 11, 1814), Officer of the Legion of Honor (December 22, 1809) Alfred Armand Robert of Saint-Chamans (1781-1848) in dress at La Kinski, May-July 1814. Oil on canvas. 22 x 17 cm. Wrongly considered: ′′ Louis Leopold BOILLY (1761-1845), Officer Portrait ′′ © Identification of Dr. Dimitri GORCHKOFF, DR"
More commonly known black and white photo of the same portrait found in Saint-Chamans memoirs.
Painted as the Colonel of the 7e Chasseurs a Cheval 1812
Louis Leopold Boilly is one of my favorite painters from this period. Here is a large selection of his paintings. link |
