I needed some trenches/works for a game so I decided to knock some out. The basic materials used are quarter round molding from the Home DIY store and strips of 1" Bass and Balsa wood. The quarter round is glued to the Bass strip, which is its base. The area between the bottom go the quarter round and the Bass wood is filled in with scrap pieces of foam insulation board and then covered with patching plaster. I scribe planking onto the balsa wood and then glue that to back of the quarter round. This becomes the retaining wall of the trench. There is a little strip of Balsa the sticks up above the quarter round, I trimmed this off and used it for the upright post. Paint and finished it to taste – I added some sand bags. Hope you like and find useful.

I like the semi-arid look of the trenches.

they look amazing. great paint job too. Ive thought of doing just quarter round for cheap easy trenches, but you really took it a step further
