17. The mortality rate for POWs in Russian camps was 85%. This is how propaganda works))) Even in an absolutely biased article in Wikipedia, to which the link is provided, this information is not (and cannot be, since this is a monstrous lie in its insolence). link Here is an article on German prisoners of war on the same Wikipedia. If we do not take into account outright speculation, out of almost 3 million prisoners, 381 thousand people died from 1941 to 1956. Considering that many were taken prisoner wounded, sick and frostbitten, these are very small numbers. There simply cannot be unaccounted prisoners of war, since transport was allocated for their transportation, rations were allocated to them, and most importantly, they were allocated the amount of work that they had to do. The USSR is a strict account of everything that is possible, including from to prevent the possibility of "theft of socialist property." Who will count badly and lie in reporting is the first candidate for a trip to the Gulag))) |

Well let there be no doubt EPWs in German, IJFs and Russian Camps did suffer a lot of losses. The exact number may never be known. Albeit many German POWs in US hands were treated better than some of our own Black Soldiers which is tragic IMO … |

All the facts have links. I copied the link from the article about Russian death toll and it took me to the wikipedia article on the gulag. I couldn't find any reference to the 85% figure but I didn't read it carefully. |

Interesting piece As to how the Russians treated their POWs, the worse treatment was for other Russians/Soviets! |
Cuprum2 | 15 Dec 2020 8:36 p.m. PST |
No apologetics for Stalin. But a lie cannot be good. The exact death toll can hardly be restored with certainty, but there is no problem to establish the order of the numbers. All documents are now available and there are a huge number of them. All these figures "in opinion" and "as they think" are just stupid speculation. The Germans increased the number of allegedly dead in Russian captivity, simply to include in this number all those who disappeared in the four years of the war. In Russia, until now, special teams of volunteers every year find hundreds and thousands of unburied soldiers, both Russian and German, who are still listed among the missing. And these are by no means the victims of the Gulag. The stories about the Soviet authorities' ill-treatment of their own prisoners are also greatly exaggerated. Those who in one way or another collaborated with the occupiers were punished. |

German prisoners were treated very well. For some reason they were just kept for 11 years after the war ended…. |
Cuprum2 | 17 Dec 2020 12:18 a.m. PST |
Simply, these people have destroyed half of Russia and killed nearly 30 million people, mostly of the working population. Therefore, the captured Germans had to take an active part in the restoration of the destroyed. |

If you want to see deliberate and uncompromising killing of Russian POWs then look at how the Fins decided (as official policy) to starve them to death. They were as Bad as the Germans in this regard. |
deadhead | 17 Dec 2020 6:43 a.m. PST |
Now that about the Finns really surprises me. Their situation was always parlous and I would have imagined treating POWs well might have been a good insurance policy for the long run. Is there any evidence for that. Genuinely interested! |

This thread would be a good start link and the 4th post down has a number of good links for further reading This topic has come up a few times on AHF and as you can see some people will not accept any blame for their nations crimes. |

Yes, many thanks. I have only skimmed through that so far but it seems very balanced and not the ultra right wing site that the title suggested. |

it seems very balanced and not the ultra right wing site that the title suggested. There used to be a very balanced membership in the past and it was an excellent resource for all things WW2. However-in my opinion the search for a wider 'engagement' has resulted in an influx of a lot of ill-informed Google-bound posters who are obsessed with re-running WW2 so that Germany can win. This type of 'heated debate' in encouraged as it brings in the punters. 'Clicks' are everything and I think it is starting to circle the drain. No one is safe-look what happened with Armchair General Forums last month! |

The Finns treated cruelly not only with the prisoners of war, but also with the entire non-Finnish population of the Soviet territories seized by them. These Russian-speaking residents were placed in six concentration camps and experienced severe hunger, many died, including children. I don't know any publications in English, but here is an article from Finnish sources in automatic translation. The Finns are dissatisfied with the publication of these facts (after the war in the USSR, they were not made public, since the USSR and Finland had good relations then). link Oh, they have already managed without me))) |

As far as I know, of the German allies, only Italians and Slovaks behaved with dignity on the territory of the USSR. The Spaniards of the Blue Division were known as thieves and robbers, but not murderers. There were cases when they did not allow the Nazis to shoot civilians. All other allies of Hitler were distinguished by extreme cruelty and mass killings of civilians. The Bulgarians refused to fight against the Russians. I even read somewhere about a situation when a damaged Russian plane landed at a Bulgarian airfield, corrected the malfunction and took off. He was accompanied by Bulgarian fighters to the border, not allowing the Germans to shoot down the plane. |
