Not you. Your figures.

Do you have figures without weapons that are carrying non-weapon tools?

I guess the biggest category here would be post-apoc/zed figures using tools as improvised/converted weapons. This gets into the whole agency (re: Arthur Koestler, The Ghost in the Machine) thing, so let's just count those as a separate category.

For me, I do have hordes (he he) of postapoc/zed/2000AD gangers with improvised/converted weapons.

I think my next biggest group is military support functions like pre-20th century signaliers of various stripe and dedicated comms, engineers, supply, or medics.

I have lots of agrarians as well. So, if they end up in a fight (though often their purpose is to avoid it), they get slightly better stats than their peer non-combatants.

Then I have a few modern/scifi civilians with tools. So as opposed to a worker with a scythe or a chainsaw, they are just treated as regular non-combatants.

Such figures are probably 33% or so of my civilians, which are probably 10-150% of my figures.

I used to have quite a few, but have sold them off while reducing my lead pile. I do still have a bunch of Japanese villagers with farm implements for battling bandits.

Some – mostly sci-fi or SYW civilian types

Not much. I have several spaceship crew figures carrying various objects (e.g., hand computer/scanner/whatever).

Very few civilians without weapons. Really mostly for skirmish "kidnap" or "hostage rescue" scenarios. Civilians wandering around with bullets flying and bombs going off gets a little too close to real war for my entertainment preferences.

Quite a few Wild West civilians/towns folk. Also some ACW civilians as well as WWII refugees.

Need more modern civilians.

A good number. I used to do a lot of Viking/slave taking type raids in various settings and have civilians for them including women and children.

I have some engineer/sapper types for my 1897 army. There are some pirates engaged in non-combat type activities, like digging for treasure or getting drunk, though some of these have side arms. My Dark Age armies have some folks with improvised weapons, like pitchforks, and other figures with slaves, loot, stolen animals, or getting drunk (I hope this isn't going to become a theme with my armies).

I have quite a few gardener/farmer figures in my VBCW collection. One nice figure has an insect sprayer, but I turned it into a single shot flamethrower :-)

Does a band count:

I've got a 6mm town militia which includes priests/nuns praying and a bunch of farmers waving various forks, spades, scythes and such oddments. Plus wives, children and old grandpa shaking a fist. Does that count?

I´ve got A couple of hundred, medieval, Imagi-Nation and Ancient Roman citizens.
Those that are carring tools ?..TBH, I´ve never counted.

von Schwartz ver 225 Dec 2020 7:48 p.m. PST

I bought a couple packs of peasants with farming tools, pitchforks, scythes, and the like, all 15mm though I'm afraid. I think they were Minifigs.

I have some 20mm from irregular miniatures holding tools in a diorama I made of the workers revolution aspect of the Spanish Civil War. wrenches, hammers, shovels I believe. also have civilian peasants with farm implements, also for Spanish Civil War.

oldjarhead30 Mar 2021 1:26 p.m. PST

I also have Irregular Miniatures figures with tools except in 15mm

John the Greater31 Mar 2021 7:35 a.m. PST

If agricultural tools carried by a mob count at tools, I have a bunch. If they are weapons then the guys with tools are generally pioneers/sappers/engineers.

I do like to throw a civilian or three into my camps.
