"I am removing the speed limiters…"

If only my late father was still alive. He was a REME fitter in the 86th Anti Tank Gun Regiment, Royal Artillery in Normandy and they were equipped with gutted Crusaders, Crusader tanks which had their turrets removed and were stripped out for use as towing vehicles for the 17-pounder.
Official speed for the Crusader is around 27mph but the fitters removed the governors (the 'speed limiters') and were proud of the fact they could achieve around 55 mph on a road or 5mph father than a Royal Military Policeman on a motorcycle using war petrol. So they were drive past the RMPs, give them verbals and then put their foot down and go. The RMPs would try to chase on their 50mph motorcycles but usually gave up after two or three miles.

As to the flying Crusader, it is a fact that a Cromwell unit (the Crusader's successor with a Rolls Royce Meteor engine) once rushed a village in Holland by leaping a 22 foot wide dijk. The crews had done a recon the previous night and estimated that if they hit the friendly edge of the dijk at full speed they could make the jump. This they did, at first light, and the tanks were in the German-held village before the Germans knew what had hit them. History suggests all tanks made the jump successfully.
