I honestly think that "So Proudly We Hail"(1943) was one of the grittiest and honest/accurate of the "early" WW2 films ever made, which is why it remains on my favorite list. The "Purple Heart" is up there too, sentimentally at least, but it was very much a "Rah, Rah!" movie, still it's always stuck with me since first watching it as a kid. |

Having only read the lengthy Introduction, I find the author could have benefitted from a proofreader, but saying only that would be unfair. Portions of the thesis seem open to counter argument, but again in fairness, I'd need to read the entire 189 pages, which right now would require more time than I'm currently ready to commit. However, for the serious film buffs among us, I highly recommend bookmarking the link and giving it a go. TVAG |
