Seems a bit premature. But in the current climate, who knows.

A very sensible decision, even if the Vaccination program around the world continue to progress at their current rate.

If anyone decides to have a convention in 2022, please let me know. If the numbers are restricted, don't bother.

Wow. That's a bummer. Not totally unexpected but still a bummer.

Given the inability of the U.S, to get it's COVID under control, seems totally sensible.

Most likely an economic decision…. not one based on reality. CDC statistics show after all the retirement homes were cleared out of "inconvenient old people" the "death rate by all causes" in the US by all age categories is no greater than past history would predict prior to Covid. Expect over half the wargaming conventions to never return.

"A very sensible decision, even if the Vaccination program around the world continue to progress at their current rate."………….

Fauci and others are saying the next three months are going to be the worst in our nations history from a medical standpoint.

So even if they roll out the vaccine in December, the landscape is not going to be changed very much by March.

At the rate we're going, I'd be surprised if there were any conventions in 2021, maybe an outside shot in the late Fall/early Winter.

Not to mention; once the vaccine is approved and rolled out, how many people are going to get it? I'm sure there will plenty who will refuse, so COVID will still be out there, it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Based on a survey I took factoring in my age and current health, I won't be eligible for the vaccine until late Summer………..if I'm lucky.

Then the question becomes how long will the vaccine actually be effective, ie, how long before it wears off, will additional shots be required, like the flu shot which you have to get every year.

What an incredible, unfathomable mess.

Jschutt, even if it was an "economic decision" I can't say I find fault with the organizers decisions. Many contracts have opt out deadlines in the 2-3 month range and we are coming up on that time period now.

Hope they can return in 2022.

Their contract for 2021 was opted out the minute Illinois went to Phase 1. The only relief for a convention that size would have for the state to achieve Phase 5. link

The question remained whether to hold a smaller scale convention or not. Considered is the fact that a large percentage of the attendees are from out of state (and the US) coupled with the high cost of the venue. Event Space, Room Blocks, Concessions, and the such for Adepticon are 2nd only to Gencon in cost for the US mini shows.

At a reduced level the break-even point would be hard to accomplish, not to mention the quality of the con would have suffered. Their deposits would be simply rolled over to 2022.
