"In this video Dr. Roman Töppel speaks about his experience talking to "Panzer Aces" like Otto Carius (author of Tigers in the Mud) and others. How they saw themselves and others, how kill claims were recorded and by whom. Additionally, we also talk about Kurt Knispel and some aspect that is usually not covered in the literature."

Fascinating little talk. Never seen this before. Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like not many (if any, apart from Wittman) bothered counting kills.

Bothered? They had better things to do, like living for another 24 hours, rather than painting rings on a gun barrel. Let us be grateful to the air, tank and A/T gunners from the East and the West (and South I guess) who deprived them of the opportunity to do so.

Deadhead, I wasn't for a second suggesting they should have! It's just that you read all these 'definitive' numbers and they turn out to be mainly made up by later authors. I always thought it a bit odd they could remember so well- no RAF fighter debriefs – obviously they mostly didn't.
