A correction on the article -- the Grand Gulf Military "Monument" (actually a state park) is not in Vicksburg but south of there off US Hwy 61 outside Port Gibson. Park web site: grandgulfpark.ms.gov Map: link The park also preserves the remnants of the Confederate earthern fortifications that stymied Grant's crossing there, forcing him further down the Mississippi River to his successful crossing at Bruinsburg. I was thinking small as well, but back then I guess even a couple cases of booze would bring a good price. |
