I see that the Interceptors vs. UFOs game is mentioned in Wargames Journal – Issue 9, and can be found on the web too:

link

In it, there is also mention of a Part 1 portion of the article for land gaming against the UFOs, using SHADO Mobiles, and presumably troops too, in Issue 4 of the printed version of this magazine (which may have been issued in about 2008, or possibly a little earlier than that).

I've looked on-line and can't seem to find a copy of it like you can for the later issue, which has the rules for the space gaming scenario(s) shown above.

Any chance one of you might have the printed issue mentioned above, and would be willing to sell it, or to provide details of how the UFOs and aliens, vs. SHADO Mobiles and humans game rules work?

I'd love to see them, but haven't had any success in trying to find a copy to view on-line. All of the ones I've found don't have the article or rules for the land-based game, so perhaps the Issue # is a typo, or it is not available on-line.

Interesting, l await delivery of a UFO saucer from 16twelve and have just received some aliens from Crooked Dice, their minions and Time Lift Security look suitable for SHADO, add some trees and l might have a potential game so would also be interested in seeing these rules.

Doesn't appear Issues 7 & 8 were ever digitized.

Not that there are the rules you are looking for…but have you ever looked at "Warning Order" magazine?

Those Crooked Dice minis are superb.

I wish they made more poses. I need to write to them to request that, and would appreciate if other like-minded individuals would do so too.

I'm thinking at least one alien kneeling and firing his rifle, and perhaps another moving/running with gun leveled and ready to fire forward.

Perhaps another with gun tip up and running too, and another pose as if standing and hiding behind a tree or wall corner, with the gun pointed upwards also, to hide it.

Would love to see some armed, SHADO Mobile crews searching and stalking the aliens, or firing at them with their weapons.

Could use some bare-headed, SHADO Security troops too, with those long-barreled FN-like rifles with silencers on their tips, running and firing, for fighting aliens, and/or chasing down Paul Foster.

Of course, a Paul Foster, Moonbase Girls, Astronauts, etc., etc. would be appreciated too.

Thanks for the link(s).

I've looked through some of those and haven't been able to find the rules for the SHADO vs. UFO(s) ground game, though I have seen some of the photos of that from the 1990s.

Looks like the reference in the on-line magazine is incorrect, since I agree it isn't in the Issue #4 one I've seen, though perhaps the on-line mag differs from the in print one.

Also, thanks for the link to the UFO and Interceptor rules. I have seen and downloaded them, though have yet to play them. I need to work on that. Just need a large-scale, space, hex mat or two.

If anyone runs across the issue for the SHADO vs. UFOs/Aliens ground game, or has any ideas to share, I'd be interested in seeing/hearing it/them.

On a side note, I'm also looking for decals for the Konami Mobiles for Mobile 2, Mobile 3, and SHADO Control, if anyone knows of a source for them, or makes those (preferably in the correct font used for the show). I could use a couple of sets of decals for SkyDiver 2 and SkyDiver 3 also.

I found an old entry on this site where John Treadaway makes mention of the ground based game using Mobiles v UFO's,possibly with Konami models so it seems unlikely that foot troops were involved.
I have just ordered some Crooked Dice minions and a couple of ARC figures with rifles, l envisage a game where the aliens have to get from point A to point B with an unwilling organ donor, SHADO have to intercept them before reaching point B (Saucer) and escaping. Terrain would be a forest and the alien movement could be by using blinds or by stealth (Black Ops), cards could be used to help or hinder, if the UFO takes off then maybe a Mobile could attempt to bring it down. Give the Aliens a limited number of turns to reach the saucer before it degrades to encourage them to move rather than sit still and there may be the making of a decent game.

Sounds like a good scenario, which conveniently uses the available figs nicely.

I like it!

I've e-mail Crooked Dice, and they said they'd forward my request on to the appropriate folks for new poses for both Aliens and SHADO Security Personnel. I provided some hints as to which poses I'd like to see, and added to some of those listed above as well.

I'd love to see some actual armed, SHADO Mobile Crews, as well as some SHADO HQ Security Troops with rifles and pistols to keep people like that suspected traitor, Paul Foster in line, in addition to the aliens.

Londonplod29 Nov 2020 5:06 a.m. PST

I will email them with a similar request.
I watched Computer Affair last night, the Canadian woodland shootout is great inspiration, l noted that the mobile crews were wearing the same uniform as SHADO Security, as seen in the Psychobombs. Dark blue one piece suit with white belt and boots, mobile commanders wear cream coloured outfits, three crew per mobile, you never see more than two aliens on screen as they only made two suits apparently.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I hope they will consider making more poses.

If not, I guess I'll just have to do some, and/or a lot of conversion work.

I'm thinking something along the lines of the movie they made from the TV show clips, "Invasion UFO" IIRC, which has about 30 or so UFOs showing up all at once, with apparently more Moonbase Interceptors than the normal 3 to oppose them. I think there was even a moon-based tank in that, which may be the same one they used for the Space 1999 episode too.

They might try to take over Moonbase, SHADO HQ, or other important targets, and with reinforcements, they may have better odds of doing so.
