I am looking for a rule set for Cold War Micro Armor that is fun and a good "Beer and Pretzels" game that will have some appeal to non-wargamers.

My go to rules for a while as been FFT3 and Modern Spearhead but I have a hard time finding players who enjoy them as much as I do. I tired Cold War Commander for a simpler ruleset, but it just did not click with me and PZ8 was just too simple.

Any suggestion for a fun yet fairly simple Cold War Micro Armor rule set? Particularly I am looking for a ruleset that can play in 1 to 2 hours and can be taught to new players who have a gaming experience but not necessarily wargaming experience fairly quickly. Also most of my play lately has been online via Tabletop simulator so a game that I can explain quickly over voice chat is really ideal.

Thanks in advance.

A while back there was an Axis & Allies branded game with collectable minis. It was hex based but i thought it was a great gateway game.

Basically each unit had an attack value against other unit types. So AT guns were good against tanks, sucky against infantry. Tanks were good versus tanks, not as good versus infantry.

It was a very simple system that encouraged sound tactics (I think it was a mistake to make it collectable as you didn't know what mini you were buying).

If you keep your army lists simple I think it would be pretty easy to use that game and just proxy (so an M1A1 is a Tiger, and a T72 might be a Sherman or T34/85).

I'd just swap out the minis and play it that way.

zookie, you mentioned playing via Tabletop Simulator. Is there a mod for modern armor?

williamb: I don't use a mod I just make basic tokens myself for whatever game I am playing.

Team Yankee in 6mm has a solid following, I think it may fit your bill.

Tigers & Stalins falls in between FFT and Pz8. Solid set of rules but provided data is limited to the late war period.

BattleGroup NorthAG by PSC is good. Not too complicated.
