Does anyone have any idea whether the Cuirassiers du Roi rode black horses like they did in the Napoleonic Wars?

Or did they just use any horses of a "suitable" dark colour?

Kronoskaf has a lot of information about this regiment, but nothing about horse colors. The Cuirassiers du Roi saw a lot of action in the SYW, and were eventually badly damaged, and sent back to France to rebuild.

As in most wars, matching horse colors by regiment or squadron was probably difficult, so dark bays, other darker brown horses would have been used.

Also, most illustations of mounted Napoleonic French cuirassiers show dark browns, mosty bays (black manes, legs and tails, brown bodies). Only the Grenadiers a cheval of the Guard, a squadron of the Polish Guard lancers; and the 2 Carabinier regiments were authorized to ride blacks.

Thank you Garde de Paris. I will now paint mine as dark horses.
