Very nice approach!

Some years ago, I did red floors with gray walls for cathedral ruins, and it worked out pretty well.

Interesting choice. I seem to recall a brick cathedral somewhere in Britain from my long ago trip.

I keep considering grabbing a few of the kits to build a grand cathedral for skirmish games. Probably using the old Cathedral maps from WotC's map of the week stuff to get an internal layout.
