I good friend of mine is opening a new hobby-shop/gaming center in Metro Detroit on Black Friday. Filling a void in the local gaming scene this store is located at Woodward Avenue and Square Lake. You can see a sneak-peek of the brand-new facility on my blog here: link

The store's website (still under development but featuring hours and location) is here bastiongaming.com

Very cool. Might have to make a trip up there.
Please keep us posted.

That's impressive!

skipper John20 Nov 2020 3:55 p.m. PST

[The governor] will never allow this to remain open…

BrockLanders20 Nov 2020 4:48 p.m. PST

Nice to see a game shop opening instead of closing for once. I hope your friend has great success

Best of luck to him.

Great news. Just a few miles up the road. Will definitely have to stop in when they open

MarbotsChasseurs20 Nov 2020 5:47 p.m. PST

Good luck, I hope everything works out for the best!

He's going to have to remove 3 of those tables. If he has any crime problems, tell him to call Ghostbusters.

Augustus20 Nov 2020 11:01 p.m. PST

Important question: what good food is in the area?

Gray Bear20 Nov 2020 11:44 p.m. PST

Very impressive. I wish him luck with this business venture.

Thresher0121 Nov 2020 12:31 a.m. PST

Best of luck.

Looks like a nice venue.

skipper John probably has a point though.

Governor Deleted by Moderator. More to the subject, Last game store I visited here in Houston closed 10 years ago. Best of luck in Detroit. Really taking a leap of faith

Bloomfield Hills? Not too far from my old stompin' grounds when I lived in the Motor City. When the border opens (I am on the Canadian side of it) must drop by

I must say that even though I only got to Michigan five or six times a year I didn't realize how much I would miss it when the border closed – can't wait to get back for a visit

Sheepman196121 Nov 2020 4:26 p.m. PST

My son lives in Rochester Hills, unfortunately I live in the UK!

He's right you know

Never a dull moment in the current US political front ! Not saying anything negative or positive … but the media does make for some very interesting watching.

Silurian22 Nov 2020 11:26 a.m. PST

This is great news. Good luck to your friend Anton.

Asteroid X22 Nov 2020 11:29 a.m. PST

Those look like blackboards along the walls. That could be very handy when playing.

If I did I'd end up in the dawghouse till sometime 2021, maybe later.

Normally I would agree, but my gag reflex isn't what it used to be.

Well I generally have the news on in the morning thru the afternoon. I don't want to miss any lunacy mentioned by some that are way on the opposite side of me. evil grin

Plus I don't want to miss out on when the aliens land or a zombie outbreak …👽🛸🧟‍♂️

von Schwartz23 Nov 2020 6:45 p.m. PST

Well OK on the alien landing or the zombie outbreak, but you KNOW they can't be trusted to truthfully report anything else. I rely on the "Onion" instead for my "HARD" news, occasionally "Mad" magazine for political commentary.

WKeyser24 Nov 2020 5:37 a.m. PST

von Schartz if you are sent to the dog house until 2021 then at least you will be alive.

No doubt about that !

Ditto to MiniatureWargaming dot com. What the heck is he getting censored for by saying the name of his town?

Best of luck to a new store in our area. I did not know there were so many Michiganders in the TMP. Once everything is safe, we should all get together there.

The name is fine and has not been Deleted by Moderatored. It's the political comment that was removed. grin

Do former "honorary" Michiganites count? It was only six months in Ann Arbor and it was 1983, but it was a great experience. "Go Blue" was the cry back then, for what you folk call football.

I am amazed this chap can actually open for business right now. Most of Europe is under "lockdown" at present and stores like this rely on on-line sales. No way anyone is getting in the door.

Personal logo Bobgnar Supporting Member of TMP25 Nov 2020 10:17 a.m. PST

deadhead, Indeed you are welcome. I will make an announcement as to when we might do it. Give you plenty of lead time.

"Go blue " is still the cry however it doesn't seem to mean much, given the empty stands and losing record. We are still playing football with our hands Something of an evolution beyond rugby from soccer (English football)

von Schwartz26 Nov 2020 3:59 p.m. PST

Well, no dawghouse, but my untoward comments have been removed. And here I thought I was being obtuse and vague enough to fly under the radar.

Blackhorse MP27 Nov 2020 3:13 p.m. PST

Do former "honorary" Michiganites count?

Sure, but if you want to retain the title you can never, ever, call yourself a "Michiganite", as any self respecting resident of the Great Lake State knows that we are Michiganders.grin

Bobgnar, I like your idea. Just say when.

Marulaz127 Nov 2020 3:45 p.m. PST

I wish the guy luck and would love it if it were near me.

John

jsmcc9127 Nov 2020 4:26 p.m. PST

Good to see. I may have to make a trek there when we are able to gather.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP26 Dec 2020 8:08 a.m. PST

Yes, I want to hear more about this too.

Well done for reviving it!

von Schwartz ver 226 Dec 2020 8:14 a.m. PST

Sure, but if you want to retain the title you can never, ever, call yourself a "Michiganite", as any self respecting resident of the Great Lake State knows that we are Michiganders.

Are you a UPer or a troll?

UPer lives in the Upper Pennisula
Troll, lives under the bridge(i.e. the Mackinac Bridge that joins the Upper Pennisula with the lower portion of the state).

von Schwartz ver 226 Dec 2020 8:20 a.m. PST

von Schartz if you are sent to the dog house until 2021 then at least you will be alive.

How will I know?

BTW it's von Schwartz, the way it was mispelled gives it a totally different, and rather unwholesome connotation, don't know if was intentional or accidental, hopefully the latter.

Love that there is an Irish Brigade flag on the wall instead the ubiquitous Sci-Fi/Fantasy posters. Tough time to start a new business of any kind. Our local store has shut down and stop paying rent on their game room. I wish this new store the best of luck.

von Schwartz ver 211 Feb 2021 3:26 p.m. PST

Any updates as to whether our friend in Detroit actually was able to make a go of it?

Anton Ryzbak12 Feb 2021 7:53 a.m. PST

von Schwartz,
Yes he has, having had the legal team examine the latest dictates of the Gov it has been determined that wargaming and roleplaying are not activities under injunction. As such both are legal as long as other safety measures are observed. In light of that the store is available for open gaming as well as hosted events. Stocking continues and Bastion is now a local distributor for Warlord games as well as Battlesystems terrain and buildings. To see the latest developments you can check the webpage which is here: bastiongaming.com or Facebook link

von Schwartz ver 212 Feb 2021 3:02 p.m. PST

Thanks for the update

Baranovich10 Mar 2021 5:46 p.m. PST

Wow, looks like a great place! Nifty gaming space. Best of luck to him!
