Greetings Gamers-Call for GM's

It is that time of year to start planning for Little Wars 2021. As of now we are going to proceed with the 4 day Little Wars as planned, but with a 300 person restriction.

This would be in compliance with the probable mitigation situation scheduled for the spring. Doing this would limit each of our rooms to 50 people max. Our plan is to have every game and vendor in the main ballroom at the Westin O'Hare. We can set up a series of air walls which would partition the area to maintain distancing.

All of this is subject change of course, but with the successful running of Autumn Wars, we have demonstrated our flexibility.

Having explained that, we would like to start the process for Event Submission. Tabletop Events is set up and ready to go. You can submit your events on the link below.

There are still some items we are still working on, pricing, merchandise, room blocks, etc. We are hoping to have all of that firmed up by the first of the year.

Please feel free to reach to me sooner if need be. I can be reached at 773 594 1301, or president@hmgs-mdwest.com.

Have a safe and great rest of the year,
Kevin Cabai

You really think Governor Deleted by Moderator Pritzker is going to let you have a convention, even in late April?

Maybe in July.

Drat. I was going to join HMGS-Midwest, too. You were my best shot for 2021. But a cap of 300 hardly makes it worthwhile. Please let me know when there's a 2022 plan.

I know we don't quite have a vaccine yet, but it's close. Maybe wait a month to see how vaccine gets going before making long range plans? Things could look very different in late April than they do now.

I may be pessimistic but I wouldn't think we would see enough vaccine for the average person until mid summer at the earliest. Hopefully we do and all your planning will be worth it.

When it comes to gaming convention attendance, 300 is the new 1000, at least for the immediate future.

Good luck with your efforts.

Sadly, 47Ronin, it doesn't work that way either for finding games to play in or for selling stuff in the flea market. I lose 3/4 of the GMs and 3/4 of the buyers, but I still have 100% of the expenses. At a convention of 1,000+ I can sell everything I can transport, find a couple of games a lecture and a painting course. A max of 300 means I drive four or five hours each way, pay registration, table rental and two nights' motel bill--then load up maybe half the stuff and bring it home again. Maybe I find a game, maybe I don't.

Time passes, and this does not empty out the garage.

Just because I'm still in a whining mood:

I'll go to the SYWA Convention this year if there is one even though it's well under my stated minimum, because (a) these are my friends, and (b) I can count on games and lectures in my period, and know what to stock for the flea market. I'd do the same thing for the Napoleonic Wars if there were a convention within reach. (It's been discussed.) But the smaller a general interest convention is, the more it's a matter of luck.

Anyway, I hope you make your 300.

I'm not worried, now that the election is over the pandemic will end.
