Tried an experiment with Reaper's Water Weird. I mounted the figure on a LED tea light to see how the flickering effect looks through the clear blue plastic. It's not quite what I was aiming for, but I liked it enough to paint the well section and texture the tea light as a base for the miniature. Reaper's Water Weird at the Over the Hill Gaming Blog |

I thought the name sounded familiar, the creature looked familiar. Dungeon of Dread? The only Endless Quest book I ever had. |

It looks good, but the LED appears to be yellow. Was that a conscious design decision? If so, I'm curious why? It makes the base appear to be lava, rather than water. There are blue LED's which can be soldered into place (make sure to match polarity, or it won't turn on…). Cheers! |

Sigwald: Thanks! It turned out better than I expected. Twilight Samurai: I don't recall which Endless Quest book the water weird appeared in, but I do remember it showing up. It's a classic elemental creature from the original AD&D Monster Manual. Sgt Slag: This was a proof of concept with what I had on hand more than anything else. I've had the miniature for awhile and the LED tea lights from a previous project. It might be interesting to try moving the LED deeper into the miniature for more even lighting, but that's an idea for another day. Frederick: You're welcome! Seeing the work of others inspires me – I'm happy to pay that forward. |

I stuck two of the flickering tea light LEDs in the large fire elemental (one in the base, the other higher up, ran them both from one battery.) Came out better than I expected… ;-) |

Trying multiple LEDs is a good idea. I might give it a try next time. Thanks! |

I had the same problem, even with a superbright. It just didn't refract the light all the way up like I wanted… |
