"President Donald Trump may withdraw nearly all U.S. troops from Somalia as part of a global pullback that includes reductions of forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, U.S. officials said on Tuesday.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said nothing had been finalized and that no orders for Somalia have been received by the U.S. military. But there appeared to be a growing expectation that drawdown orders would be coming soon…"

About time, what the heck were they doing there in the first place.

Good news indeed!

They have been talking about this for awhile now. Just like A'stan there is nothing more can be done for these failed states. Save for use of Drones and Orbital assets to keep an eye on the Jihadis. Then take them out with drones, etc., when the situation presents itself.

Seems like a wise move.

I do not understand this. This is five days before Biden takes over and if the new government does not agree with this policy they simply put the troops back. So they better wait with packing…

I don't think that will happen as most in the US see the massive waste of blood & treasure in places like Somalia, A'stan, Iraq and even Syria has gone on too long. Even the news Administration knows that.

Being an American this has been an ongoing theme. Again, those nations are failed or failing states. You can't free a fish from water. We can't "fix" them. Many there are wedded to their religion and tribal affiliations. They don't even have a national identity in most cases. They see themselves as Shia or Sunni, or one of the 6 major tribes in A'stan. Or seeing everyone else who is not like them as infidels, that is most of us btw, and they can kill us to get into Paradise.

As I said, we just need to be vigilant with drones, orbital assets, etc., to insure they don't become hot beds for terrorist training and activity to attack the West. Just like Israel don't be afraid to use airstrikes, etc., as they recently did in Syria on Iranian and Syrian targets.

Again, be concerned about collateral damage, but don't be to reluctant to use our firepower. Many in those countries hate the US already, so no need to worry too much about heats & minds. This is not Vietnam.

Until they want to become more secular, less tribal and move into the 20th Century let alone the 21st. We have good intel and a lot of missiles, etc.

IMO that is the reality of the situation …

This is five days before Biden takes over and if the new government
BTW that hand over does not take place until January 15th IIRC. Until that time even if you have been voted out called a Lame Duck. You are still the POTUS. You don't stop being that until the actual turn over ceremony takes place. The world does not stop for a US election.

Thank you for the explanation, Legion 4. Of course I have no solution, but just have to conclude that we (in Europe, I mean) had the same situation some four or five hundred years ago, only the parties then were called protestant and catholic. See for instance August 23, 1572. One of the results BTW was the calling of a quarter in Amsterdam "Jordaan", but that's another story.
And perhaps we cannot "fix" them but should try to save them. Like the Jezidis in Iraque murdered by IS. Like the civilians in Yemen. By far the most victims of Muslim terrorists are muslim themselves. Please do not think this is a battle between "the West" and and "the muslims". This is a battle between violent fanatics and the rest.

Generally agree with what you posted.

I have said similar that molsems have killed more moslem than we have. But after 9/11 it was hard not to think this is radical islam vs. the infidels.
And when I say infidels, I not only mean the West. But Sunni and Shia, tribe vs. tribe, warlord vs. warlord, etc. E.g. ISIS is Sunni … so is AQ but they are very much enemies. As are the Kurds, but ISIS tried to wipe then out too. And of course the Turks being Sunni trying to destroy the Kurds.

And so it goes on. There are so many factions they need to each wear different colored numbered sports jerseys. And have roster to tell who is who. Like at a football/soccer game.

I have a tendency to think it is really their problem and not ours. And again only they can fix it. Just don't come to the US, Canada, Europe, etc., and kill us in our own streets.

And yes, I'm pretty sure no one has the solution … at this time and the killings will continue …
