Afternoon all,

I've had to self-isolate for a few days due to a Covid Test (Negative thankfully) so thought i'd show you my Imperial Guard Brigade for the Battle of Medina De Rioseco in 1808.

Consisting of three Battalions of Fusilier-Chasseurs and two squadrons of Chasseurs à Cheval de la Garde Impériale, this is a nice little brigade.

There's plenty of photos over on my blog for those who are interested.

Hope you have enough money to keep up the good work.

Beautiful

I just don't have the skill or patience to get the lining around the straps the way you have

Ahhmm beautiful children… ;-)

did you not paint the epaulettes red? Very difficult to see them, and parade dress? Black gaiters for battle surely?
We must adhere to the Emperors decrees after all…

I can see that you've worked very, very hard on them, but the finish doesn't quite work for me.
In my opinion ~ and I'm sure others will disagree with me ~ there's too much black outline and use of black to pick out details. For example, the pockets on the white waistcoats ~ could they perhaps have been better suggested using light grey tones?
And ditto with the black lines on the gaiters, just below and above the knee. I can really see what you're trying to achieve, but to me it just makes them look they're wearing skateboarding kneepads. Again, please allow me to suggest some lighter grey tones, perhaps applied less like a draughtsman, although I admire the steadiness of your paintbrush.
Forgive my observations ~ they're just my point of view ~ but you generously stated that you welcome constructive criticism.

AFAIK, the Fusiliers Chasseurs had only two battalions.

I wasn't going there… but could have.
You can never have enough left plumed 'Chasseurs'- love the model!
Back in my early days I too created the '2nd wave' garde, wish I'd kept them… ;-(

I like them.

These are 15/18mm figures and I am seeing them on my monitor at times two magnification. Photography with bright illumination might exaggerate the black outlines, but it certainly "works" for me. I think subtle shading would be better in 28mm, but here I want to see detail like that.

Not saying I could do it though.

Well done for seeking feedback either way. Anything is better than being completely ignored and we all know there are so many, often highly individualised, painting styles. Room for all.

Hey guys

Thanks for all the feedback, I don't take "criticism" constructive or not personally as i'm used to being unpopular in my work life – first in law enforcement and now in regulation – so this is nothing.

Interesting r.e the Fusilier-Chasseurs and the two battalions – why does my Orbat say three?

Oh well, not to worry, one battalion doesn't have flag / eagle so will just make it two larger battalions

Very nice. What rules do you use, and want's the scale per figure?

Cheers,
Dean

Very fine work-- especially on the infantry figs.

I wish I could do that. Thanks For the photos.

>>– why does my Orbat say three?

Well tacticly that may be so.
Just because 'official' organisation is such and such; don't forget that 'he who must be obeyed' created 'formations' time and time again.

Those four battalions of 'Grenadiers and Chasseurs' at Austerlitz? They were not the same 'battalions' that lived in garrison in Paris 4 months earlier.

Thus I see that your composition is possible for sure,
d
